Nope… not talking any governmental declaration, I’m talking about my declaration. My declaration to myself and to the world that I am who I say I am. That I am as strong as I say I am. That I am as talented and skilled as I say I am. And it’s not just what and who I say I am. It’s about who and what I know I am. I have 100s of 1000s of novellas, novels, and chaotic perfection resting in my head pushing at the seams of skull bones trying to escape. I’ve learned various forms of writing but creative is by far my passion. I wish I could wake up every morning and just read and write for 8 hours instead of anything else.
But I digress. This is my declaration, declaring that I am a writer. I’m an amazing writer. A skilled writer. An imperfect writer. A creative writer. A sensual writer. A gripping writer. A one-day-to-be-published writer.
I. Am. A. Writer.
The reasoning behind this bold declaration is Jeff Goins. Today is day 1 of 15 of his newest challenge entitled “15 Habits of Great Writers,” where every day he gives you a habit that you are given a task to accomplish.
Day 1: Declare You’re A Writer
Not just to your wall or computer or notebook, but to an actual person or institution. Someone or something you’re scared of — this could be a person who might reject or judge you, a family member who may misunderstand you, or a publisher who could discredit you. But tell them and tell them now.
Do it with pride and boldness. Write about it, tweet it about, record a video if you want. The more outrageous it is, the more likely you are to believe. This is what we’re trying to do here: convince ourselves that we have the right to pick up the pen.
So here is my declaration. Graphic created by me and all. I’ll always go the needed distance and then longer to be the best writer I can be. And not only to be the best writer, but to be the best writer for your business.
